Otar Shamugia meets the representatives of the Hazelnut Farmers Union

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia held a meeting with the representatives of the Hazelnut Farmers Union.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the challenges in the hazelnut sector, possible solutions, and activities for future cooperation.

 

The Minister stated that promoting the development of the hazelnut sector is a priority for the state,  therefore, the Ministry keeps active communication with the hazelnut sector associations and farmers.

 

The Hazelnut Farmers Union unites the owners of hazelnut plantations planted on more than 15 ha of agricultural land. Currently, 27 farmers are members of the organization , that is 80% of large hazelnut growers countrywide.

The parties emphasized the importance of the production of high-quality hazelnuts in the country, which promotes successful positioning in the international markets.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. George Khanishvili, and the representatives of relevant Agencies within the system of the Ministry attended the meeting.
