The environmental sustainability and circular economy-related issues to discuss at the workshop

Under the joint initiative of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP Georgia) “EU Innovative Action for Private Sector Competitiveness in Georgia”, the workshop was held in Telavi municipality to discuss environmental sustainability and circular economy-related issues.

 

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture attended the meeting.

 

"The best international experience showed us, that the adoption of EPR compliance schemes requires Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Organizations and municipalities to undertake intensive consultations and build effective collaborative teams to ensure a separate waste collection system for municipal and specific waste, and create cost-effective schemes’’. - said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

The participants discussed the current and anticipated regulations on the circular economy and sustainable development, extended producer obligation (EPR), and waste management.

The representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNPD), local self-government, relevant agencies within the system of the Ministry, and the private sector attended the workshop.
