Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili, together with the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Zaza Shavadze, met with the representatives of the Organic Aquaculture Development Association “Foreji” in the city of Batumi

The participants discussed activities and measures for revealing key challenges in the aquaculture sector, expanding sustainable aquaculture production in the country, and strengthening laboratory capacities for aquatic animal disease investigations.

 

According to Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, the development of aquaculture production in the country, as well as the promotion of locally produced fish food to the global markets is crucial for Georgia.

" Fisheries and aquaculture have substantial development potential in Georgia. Our goal is to produce a high-quality Georgian product with the support of the state and relevant structures," said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

During the meeting, the parties were focused on fish diseases, noting that the development of the aquaculture industry, as well as the production of healthy fish products, are complicated by the spreading of fish diseases.
The Director of the State Agricultural Laboratory expressed his willingness to adopt new research methods and meet the demands of farmers.

The meeting was held with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara.

 

The representatives of the Laboratory Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara, the National Food Agency, the Rural Development Agency, the State Laboratory of Agriculture, and the local self-government authorities in the Adjara Autonomous Republic attended the meeting.
