The hearing of the report on the implementation of the action plan for improving the atmospheric air quality in the city of Rustavi was held at the Ministry.

During the meeting, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia outlined air pollution as one of the major environmental challenges for the country and emphasized the importance of the policy developed by the state and measures implemented in this direction.


"It is important to note that we have made significant progress (nearly 87%) in implementing the activities outlined in the action plan for improving ambient air quality in the town of Rustavi. This is the result of effective collaboration between the government, civil society, and the private sector. I would like to thank everyone involved in the process, especially the business representatives, for their successful performance. We and our children must live in a healthy environment, which can be achieved only through collaborative efforts " Mr. Otar Shamugia stated.


 

At the meeting, the Chairperson of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mrs. Maia Bitadze, spoke about the importance of coordinated cooperation among relevant agencies involved in the implementation of the plan and emphasized the achieved results.


 "It is important that we work together with business representatives. The Parliament will soon approve a draft law on repeated fines for technical inspections and visual emissions control, which will help us to achieve our joint goal of improving air quality " Mrs. Maia Bitadze stated.

 

The Mayor of Rustavi Municipality, Mrs. Nino Latsabidze, emphasized the importance of the progress achieved in the implementation of the action plan for improving the atmospheric air quality of Rustavi and the effective measures implemented by the City Hall.

 

According to the Mayor of Rustavi, the city has great potential for greenery, which will significantly improve the air quality in the town.

 

 

The conversation touched upon the legislative changes in the environmental direction, improving self-monitoring of emissions, reducing emissions from motor vehicles in Rustavi, enhancing green infrastructure, and improving the atmospheric air quality assessment system in Rustavi. The parties also emphasized the importance of the results achieved in raising public awareness.

The Deputy Ministers Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, MPs of the Parliament of Georgia Mr. Irakli Shatakishvili and Mr. Aleksandre Dalakishvili, representatives of the civil movement "Gavigude" and heads of relevant services and departments of the Ministry attended the meeting.
