Otar Shamugia: " Important measures have been taken to improve the quality of ambient air".

"We have implemented the Euro 5 vehicle emission standard, which is already in force for passenger vehicles and minibusses. The control of fuel quality will continue. We have started monitoring vehicle emissions on the road, and this year, we are increasing the number of crews. In addition, the export of catalysts was prohibited to combat the harmful practice of removing catalysts from vehicles", said the candidate for the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, at the joint session of the sectoral committees in the Parliament.

According to Mr. Shamugia, the companies are forced to implement continuous self-monitoring systems to prevent the release of harmful pollutants into the air and avoid air pollution. At this stage, out of 51 active companies, 31 have installed the system, which was followed by technical upgrading and installation of filtering systems. Most of the remaining enterprises are actively installing the systems, and most of them are expected to complete the process this year.

Mr. Shamugia also spoke about the measures carried out within the scope of the forest management reform, stating that the country is progressing towards developing sustainable forestry farms under the new forest code. ''Business yards'' will be organized in all municipalities, which will significantly contribute to establishing the sustainable forest management practices.

The scale of forest restoration works is increasing significantly and will cover approximately 1500 ha of area this year.
