Solomon Pavliashvili participates in the meeting on Waste Management and Circular Economy Development in Georgia.

The representatives of state, international, and non-governmental organizations participated in a working meeting to discuss circular economy financing-related issues and the European experience in the respective area.

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, delivered opening remarks at the event.

Mr.Pavliashvili thanked the EU representatives for supporting the adoption of the green economy in Georgia, emphasizing that Georgia is actively working toward harmonizing its legislation and implementing EU directives.

" The circular economy faces numerous challenges in Georgia, thus, the implementation of various projects with donors' involvement is crucial. During the meeting, we discussed the creation of a circular economy financing platform, which is one of the main challenges for our country. Waste processors need to be supported and encouraged since transitioning from a linear economy to a green economy requires substantial efforts and financial resources. This is an economy entailing risks, so we should find some support for it ", Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.
According to Mrs. Annelies Vanwymelbeke, Team Leader on Green Deal, Connectivity, Economic and Investment Plan at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, the EU candidate status gives Georgia more opportunities, although, it poses more challenges and demands.

"In recent years, Georgia has been implementing tangible reforms towards sustainable management of natural resources, therefore, the European Union will continue to support Georgia in this direction," Mrs. Annelies Vanwymelbeke stated.

The meeting was held within the framework of the project "Support to Waste Management and Development of Circular Economy in Georgia", financed by the European Union, with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. Since 2022, the European Union has been carrying out a two-year technical assistance initiative and supporting the socio-economic and circular economy development in the country.

The representatives of the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Economy and Sustainable Development and Agriculture of Adjara Region, the Parliament of Georgia, the European Union Representation in Georgia, and business associations attended the meeting.
