International Expert gets familiar with the opportunities of cultivation of pistachio and olive plants in Geo

Louise Ferguson, an Expert in the Department of Plant Science, Extension Specialist and expert in the USAID Project “Farmer to Farmer” is paying a visit to Georgia to study the potential of pistachio and olive plants.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili hosted the guest at Jighaura Agricultural Scientific Research Center. The researchers of the Scientific-Research Center guided an expert in the demonstration experimental base, where up to 300 species of fruit trees, including stone fruit and berry unique varieties are planted.

 Scientists provided Louise Ferguson with the history of the National Treasure – Collection Vineyard in Jigaura and brought forward results of the ongoing scientific works.
It is important to note, that Georgian Government plans to support cultivation of pistachios and olive plants under the frame of the project ‘’Plant the Future’’.

 “Under the USAID project,  I’m paying a visit to Georgia to explore the potential of cultivation of pistachio plants. In my opinion, Georgia has a great resource,  proper climate and water conditions to develop and plant subtropical crops "said Louise Ferguson.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Khatia Tsilosani attended the meeting in Jighaura Agricultural Research Center.
