The issues related to the ongoing forestry sector reform in Georgia to discuss at the Global Programming Conference of the Green Climate Fund (GCF)

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili paid an official visit to Songdo, Republic of Korea, where she attended the Global Programming Conference realizing Climate ambitions.

The conference included high-level debates, where participants presented their plans and discussed initiatives to access international funding to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Nino Tandilashvili delivered a keynote speech at the conference panels, where she brought foreward climate change policy related issues and highlighted ongoing processes in Georgia. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister set a focus on the Georgia’s National Program , which envisages strengthening of the cooperation with the Green Climate Fund and highlighted priority directions and initiatives that will be requested from the Green Climate Fund. The Deputy Minister drew her attention to the ongoing forestry sector reform in Georgia and underlined the importance of the Green Climate Fund to finance the forestry project, which is prepared by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in cooperation with the GIZ .

In August 2019, the project was submitted to the Green Climate Fund for revision. The project envisages the allocation of approximately $ 32 million from the fund to implement important reforms in the forestry sector.
Moreover, during the conference, Nino Tandilashvili held meetings with the representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The project proposal was discussed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and cooperation in the priority areas with the Austrian Development Agency.

The plans to visit Georgia, as well as issues related to enhance access to finance and facilitate to Georgia's engagement in the project have been discussed by  the representatives of the Green Climate Fund  at the meeting.
