Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with the IAEA Director General
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili met with the Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano. The sides brought forward issues for deepening cooperation in the field of atomic energy and radiation.‘’The nuclear and radiation safety will be improved and protection of human live and environment from harmful influence of radiation will become more effective by means of the cooperation with the international agency. The reforms including nuclear and radiation security support in Georgia is once again proved by this visit. Moreover, an assistance provided by the International Agency includes not only financial support , but experts will share their knowledge and experience with their Georgian partners, that means getting closer to the international standards in the field of nuclear and radiation security’’- was noted by Levan Davitashvili.
"This is the first visit of IAEA Director General in Georgia, furthermore, today’s visit might be considered as a confirmation of the progress what we have in the field of atomic, nuclear and radiation safety, what is of utmost importance for us.
In 2016 the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency was established in Georgia, which impliments a 15 year strategy approved by the government. We have already significant results in radioactive waste management and processing, but in the future we will have many other challenges in which, I think the help of international agency will be important.” – declared Levan Davitashvili.
Maka Bochorishvili, Embassy of Georgia to the Republic of Austria permanent mission of Georgia to the OSCE together with other International Organizations in Vienna and Vasil Gedevanishvili, Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency attended the meeting at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
