Working meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council for Rural Development
The working meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council for Rural Development was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The event was opened by the First Deputy of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze.
The improvement of the agricultural productivity in rural areas is the top priority of the 2017 Action Plan for Rural Development of Georgia-was noted by the First Deputy while presenting the Annual Report of the 2017-Action Plan of the National Rural Development Strategy 2017-2020. Under the frame of the Action Plan, the First Deputy Minister underlined the importance of building and re-equipping of new enterprises, developing agro-insurance program, planting of perennial intensive gardens and tea plantations, arrangement of amelioration infrastructure, supporting cooperative farms and participation in agro-food activities.
Nodar Kereselidze brought forward activities carried out in the field of sustainable management of environmental protection and natural resources. He has been focused on the sustainable management of water, forest and other resources, drew his attention to the classification of forests for raising awareness on the importance of sustainable development of all types of forests, improvement of municipal waste management and highlighted implemented activities in the field of climate change.
Within the frame of the meeting of Inter-Agency Coordination Council for Rural Development, the Annual Report on the 2017 Action Plan for 2017--2020 Strategy have been presented by the other Government Agencies: representatives of the Ministries of Finance, Economy and Sustainable Development, Regional Development and Infrastructure, Labor, Health and Social Security, Justice, IDPs from the Occupied Territories Accommodation and Refugees and Education and Science .
The high rank officials have been focused on issues related to the improvement of road infrastructure, construction / rehabilitation of rural water supply systems, arrangement of hiking trails for tourists, construction of houses of justice, access to services, access to vocational education in the regions etc.
The implementation of the 2017 Action Plan of the 2017-2020 Strategy was positively assessed by the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, who also expressed a strong wish for efficient cooperation under the frame of the project on Institutional Arrangements for Rural Development.
