Levan Davitashvili: "We made best efforts to save the hazelnut crop, therefore, this year, we expect 40-45 thousand tons of hazelnut crop ‘’

At the joint sitting of the parliamentary committee, the important challenge facing the country, as well as measures to combat the Asian Stink Bug has been brought forward by the candidate for the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili.

“ It is impossible to avoid and not mention activities and measures taken against the brown marmorated stink bug, which I think has been a major challenge facing our country in recent years. Our pest control measures have been welcomed and positively evaluated by international experts. The Head of the scientific mission in Georgia has recently noted, that Georgia has achieved an astonishing result in the shortest period of time, thereby, Georgian program, comprising measures against the Asian Stink bug will be included in the history of entomology as a guide  "- said Levan Davitashvili.

“This year, with the help of the state, private sector and donor organizations, we  made best efforts to save the hazelnut crop, due to which, the quantity as well as quality of hazelnuts have been increased and we expect 40-45 thousand tons of hazelnut crop amounting to $ 110,000,000 of export to be implemented this year ”Levan Davitashvili said.

In his speech, the Minister set focus on the quality of pesticides and agrochemicals, which has a significant affect on the quality of the crop, Levan Davitashvili noted, that new regulations will allow the National Food Agency to implement a strict control over pesticide and agrochemicals retail shops.

 
The significant increase in the number of inspections and reduced violations in the field of food safety was also outlined by the Minister at the joint committee meeting.
