Levan Davitashvili: A number of important projects are already being implemented and planned to be launched in Georgia through financing of the Green Climate Fund

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili made an opening speech at the meeting “Cooperation with the International Partners on Climate Change”. The event is dedicated to mobilizing financial resources for climate action.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and NDC Partnership and underlined the importance of their support.
Georgia has been cooperating with the Green Climate Fund for years; It is a global fund that invests billions of dollars in mitigating climate change risks across the world.

A number of important projects have already been launched in Georgia through mobilizing funding from the Green Climate Fund. We have presented new projects related to the complex reform in the forestry sector. It should be noted, that reform requires significant investments. We hope that GCF will make a positive decision on granting more than $ 20 million to Georgia ”Levan Davitashvili said.

According to the Minister, in the first quarter of the XXI century, the negative impact of climate change caused the risk of natural disasters across the world, including Georgia.

At the meeting, the participants were mostly focused on the financial support provided by the International Climate Change Funds, however, in line with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change commitments, Georgia is preparing a revised version of the “Nationally Determined Contribution”- was noted at the meeting.

The meeting, was held at the Sheraton Hotel. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, officials of the relevant departments of the Ministry, as well as representatives of the Government of Georgia, Diplomatic Corps, the Green Climate Fund, International Partnership attended the meeting.
