Tbilisi to host the international conference on geographical indications

Tbilisi hosts the international conference on geographical indications. The event organized by Sakpatenti National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia and OriGIn Global Alliance of Geographical Indications aims to promote the protection of geographical indications in Georgia, raise awareness of Georgian entrepreneurs in this area, establish communication with foreign partners, clients and introduce local products.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, Chairman of Sakpatenti National Center for Intellectual Property, Genadi Lebanidze and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Khvtisiashvili opened the event.
As the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture stated in his speech, protection of geographical indications is one of the most important direction included in the  agricultural and rural development strategy of Georgia.

 “Georgia’s centuries-old agricultural tradition is an integral part of its history. However, we should maintain our old traditions through implementation of new legislation and modern approaches and protect geographical indications and appellations of origin. At the same time, it is important to create effective control mechanisms to increase the reliability of our products. It should be noted, that proper management and protection of appellations of origin will enable to add more value and promote marketing of Georgian products ”Levan Davitashvili said.
