Levan Davitashvili: " In 2020, we will spend GEL 36 million to arrange the irrigation infrastructure''

 ""GEL 36 million will be very important and additional sum provided for the rehabilitation and restoration of irrigation infrastructure" Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture stated during the special Cabinet meeting discussing the 2020 budget.

 “By 2012, the irrigated area included about 50,000 hectares in Georgia, however today it is more than 120,000 hectares. We have increased the irrigated areas in Eastern Georgia. As for western Georgia, the drained areas has almost tripled. The state will continue to work in this direction in the coming years as well ” Levan Davitashvili said.

According to the Minister, developing irrigation infrastructure is very important to carry out proper agricultural activities.

 “Our policy has always supported farmers. Moreover, we have maintained certain elements of agricultural subsidies in recent years. We give water to the population cheaper than its actual price is. Our support is very important for population and by 2020 we will continue financing for irrigation infrastructure services ”Levan Davitashvili said.
