Levan Davitashvili: " We strive to strengthen the capacity of the wine laboratory in accordance with modern requirements’’
The issue regarding capacity of the laboratory to further strengthen in order to enhance the control on the quality of wine- was discussed at today's government session.
As the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili explained after the government meeting, due to the increased export , the issue of credibility and quality control is still remained as a challenge.
“In line with modern requirements, we are enhancing the capacities of the lab., which plays an important role in the wine quality control system. Georgian government decided to equip the laboratory with the latest equipment to ensure a high standard of the lab performance and reliable analysis of wine. The instruments will be mostly used for precise determination of isotope ratios to determine the origin of the wine. By creating this database, we will take an another important step in terms of the control of Georgian wine and increase its credibility ”Levan Davitashvili said.
It is worth noting, that the Wine Lab Ltd makes a significant contribution to the promotion of Georgian wines. The laboratory introduces maximally protected, universal database systems -A laboratory information management system (LIMS), where all details will be taken into account.
The laboratory operates in accordance with the European and international laws and regulations, as well as local, proven methods , including documentation-oriented approaches.
The research methods are updated annually in the laboratory; Due to the demands of the diversified markets, different types of wines are being researched.
Since 2020, under the state control and inspection, the isotopic analysis for the control of wine and spirits will be implemented to prevent counterfeiting and improve the quality of wine. Ultimately, the wine laboratory will be equipped with the latest equipment, where above mentioned studies will be conducted.
