Agro-Investment Business Forum held in Shida Kartli region

On the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, an agricultural-investment business forum was held in the area of Uplitsikhe, city Gori, Shida Kartli region. At the event, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili along with the Governor of Shida Kartli region Giorgi Khojevanishvili made an opening speech, whereby, Levan Davitashvili underlined the importance of agro-investment potential in the region and set his focus on the already implemented agricultural projects and achieved results. Levan Davitashvili highlighted all agricultural-projects implemented by Georgian Government which promote the development of agribusiness in the country, increase production and create stable economic environment.
 “The agro-investment forum serves to showcase the sector’s investment potential to stakeholders. Shida Kartli has great potential in the agricultural field, especially in fruit farming. Our goal is to introduce state projects to the population of Shida Kartli region, potential investors and got familiar with their needs. We will continue to hold similar events to maximize existing potential in the region ”Levan Davitashvili said.
As the Governor of Shida Kartli region, Giorgi Khojevanishvili stated, the agroforum will promote and popularize agricultural field and give support to farmers in their future activities .
Since 2013 up to now, as a result of the implementation of state projects, significant results are already visible in Shida Kartli region.
26 new businesses were created and 104 enterprises expanded / re-equipped;
• Intensive gardens were planted on the area of 1,973 ha;
• 76 agricultural cooperatives were established;
• The irrigated land area includes 30 400 ha
The agricultural specialists made presentations on the planting of orchards/ gardens of perennial crops, developing nursery farms, poultry, winemaking and beekeeping fields, thus showcasing the agribusiness potential in the region.
At the forum, the representatives of the Agricultural and Rural development Agency, National Tourism Agency, Produce in Georgia and Administration of State Attorney made presentations on the State Agricultural Projects, Tourism Potential on the Region, HORECA Sector Development and Investment Opportunities. The forum also included B2B meetings and exhibition of local products.
The agro-investment business forum is the best platform to develop effective communication between the state and private sector aiming to further identify opportunities for agricultural development in the region.
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Ministers Khatia Tsilosani and Yuri Nozadze, representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Local Government, International Donor Organizations, Sector Associations, Hotels, Restaurant and Hotel Networks, agri-food producers and farmers attended the event.
This year, the first agro-investment business forum was held in Zugdidi, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.
The event was held with the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
