Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili attends the workshop "Extended Producer Responsibility" (EPR)

At the meeting, the stakeholders were provided with an opportunity to learn more about the draft technical regulations developed under the frame of the EU-funded project for Waste Management Sector Reform and got acquinted with the commitments, that are planned to be implemented in the future.
Draft technical regulations includes the management of packaging waste material, oils, accumulators and batteries, end-of-life vehicles, electronic equipment and waste tires and aims to develop a national registry for producers.

 “Extended producer responsibility is an environmental policy approach, whereby producers and importers of certain products will take a responsibility for the waste produced during the food production or use, the aforementioned approach also includes the responsibility for financial management of waste. Moreover, implementation of extended producer responsibility is an important step taken forward in the field of environmental protection, in which the EU is actively assisting Georgia ”Solomon Pavliashvili said.

The meeting was organized within the frame of the EU-funded project Support in the fields of Waste Management Sector Reform. The purpose of this project is to promote circular economy, waste prevention, re-use, recovery, recycling and introduction of extended producer responsibility. The project also envisages creation of a waste database and registry.

The isues realated to the draft technical regulations will be discussed with the representatives of both governmental and non-governmental sector and all interested business groups.
