New regional office of the National Food Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture opened in Mestia Municipality.

Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, together with Zurab Chekurashvili, the head of the National Food Agency, and Davit Partzvania, Deputy Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti opened the new regional office. The National Food Agency takes measures in the fields of food safety, animal health and plant protection. The building also includes an agricultural laboratory .

Minister Levan Davitashvili noted, that Georgian Government prioritizes  development of mountainous regions and creation of modern infrastructure. Svaneti is one of the most important tourist destinations, therefore , introduction of food safety standards, protection of the interests of local population and tourists, as well as protection of health is of utmost importance,  thus implementation of modern infrastructure projects will greatly contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

"tourist flow is increasing, accordingly creation of new infrastructure in Mestia, Svaneti region will enable to offer high quality service to customers, thereby,  implementation of similar projects will be further continued’’ Levan Davitashvili said.

The new offices were built in Mestia and Sachkhere with the financial support of the EU Comprehensive Institution Building (CIB). Local people will be able to have an access to state programs, get information on new regulations and produce competitive products.
EU Program Manager for Agriculture and Food Safety, George Dehoux,  Irakli Guledani, Head of the Laboratory under the Ministry of Agriculture and representatives of local authorities attended the meeting.

The new office of the National Food Agency, funded under the state budget was opened in Abasha as well.
