Cleaning Action held in Glaciers Trekking Trail in Kazbegi National Park

The cleaning Action was held in Glaciers Trekking Trail in Kazbegi National Park. The event was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and with the involvement of the structural units within it.
The representatives of the Office of Regional Administration of the Government of Georgia, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region, Kazbegi Municipality and the Border Police attended the cleaning campaign.

It should be noted, that trash cans aren’t allocated on the glacier, which is 3 653 meters above the sea level, as far as , it is impossible to systematically remove garbage from the area due to the natural conditions, however, garbige bins should be allocated everywhere in accordance with current world practice.

 “Protecting environment and biodiversity is a top priority for the Ministry and its relevant agencies. I would like to urge everyone, especially visitors to protected areas and ask them to take more responsibility not to  throw trash and not to pollute these territories. ctive involvement of local business representatives along with our citizens in the clean-up actions will significantly improve the situation, ”said Yuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, who participated in the cleaning action on the glacier trail.

The total area of Kazbegi National Park includes 78 543.4 ha. 35% of the national park is covered with forest; The rest is surrounded by alpine lakes moraines, snow-capped peaks and cliffs.

The National Park is a refuge for rare and unique species of animals and birds. Kazbegi National Park is high mountainous and its lowest point is 1,400 m above the sea level.
