Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili made a opening speech at the Livestock Expo

The Minister thanked the project coordinators for organizing the first cattle breeding exhibition and supporting a new tradition to introduce in the country, the Minister outlined the importance of the event in the development of the livestock sector.

 “Today’s event is a very important, as we have an opportunity to inform farmers about the achievements in the field, which means an introduction of high productivity varieties along with the modern technologies. cattle breeding is very important agricultural area. Accordingly, I am pleased to organize the first livestock exhibition in Georgia and I hope that the scale of the exhibition and the involvement of farmers in the event will be gradually increased”said Levan Davitashvili.

The Acting US Ambassador to Georgia, Elizabeth Rood addressed the participants.

“I am delighted that the first livestock exhibition is held in Georgia, giving farmers the opportunity to show the results of their farming work and establish new contacts. We support the process of building a sustainable economy by developing livestock farming, ” 

It is worth noting, that the Livestock Expo 2019 aims to promote competitiveness in the dairy and meat sectors in Georgia. In particular, the promotion of high-yielding genetically modified cattle and local breeds and encouragement to make investments in the livestock breeding is essential for gaining consumer confidence and plays a great role for further development of Georgian dairy and meat sectors.
Within the Livestock Expo, about fifty different types of highly productive cattle breeds - Holstein, Chestnut Schwitz, as well as Georgian local breed - Megrelian Red, calves were presented in fifty different farms across Georgia.

The farmers, cattle importers, scientists, animal feed producers and importers, agricultural suppliers, animal processors, financial organizations, professional and industry associations attended the event.
Under the exhibition, the visitors had an opportunity to taste dairy products made from local raw milk.

It is noteworthy, that the event was organized with the Georgian Livestock Breeding Association in partnership with a project funded by the US Department of Agriculture - Investing in Healthy and Quality Livestock, implemented by LandO'Lakes Venture37 and the Georgian Farmers Association.
