Georgia's achievements in the field of sustainable management of water resources to sum up at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili along with the EU Ambassador, Carl Hartzell, Austrian Ambassador, Arad Benko and Head of the National Environmental Agency, Andro Aslanishvili with the EU project "EU Water Initiative plus for Eastern Partnership countries (EUWI +) "and the Ministry of Environmental Protection  and Agriculture held a joint meeting to sum up the results.
Levan Davitashvili expressed his gratitude to the EU representatives for their support, outlined the importance of cooperation between Georgia and the EU and noted, that in accordance with the Association Agreement commitments, Georgia continues actively pursuing its national policy and strategy in line with the EU Water Framework Directive.

“We have set up a state-of-the-art European standards laboratory equipped with ultra-modern equipment; The training courses as well as capacity building are underway for the employees of the laboratory.
We plan to make the lab regionally relevant and expand the range of services. Safe water is essential for ensuring human health and life, creating sustainable livelihoods and maintaining ecosystems. Georgia is rich in water resources; Our priority is to improve the ecological conditions in our country, study and monitor water quality standards” said Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

EU Ambassador Carl Hartzel noted, that it is great, that the National Environmental Agency's laboratory was provided with the water quality testing equipment. This is a good opportunity for the laboratory to function in accordance with the international standards.

Under the fame of the EU project "EU Water Initiative plus for Eastern Partnership countries (EUWI +)" , the laboratory of the National Environmental Agency was provided with the modern equipment and tools to conduct  the quality research for water,  that will give an opportunity to lab enhance the quality of research for  water, to use modern methods for research and analysis and offer customers to benefit from a high quality service, conducted in the certified laboratory. This will contribute to the protection of water and river basins in Georgia and abroad. At the end of the event, Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, EU and Austrian Ambassadors and guests visited the laboratory of the National Environmental Agency and got acquainted with the ongoing work process.

The Minister, European diplomats and pupils of the Eastern Partnership European School carried out a symbolic analysis of the samples of Mtkvari River by using new laboratory equipment.
The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture , diplomatic corps, members of Parliament,  state and private companies, non-governmental organizations, and the project "Eastern Partnership countries plus for European Union Water Initiative (EUWI +)" attended the event , which was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
