‘’GFRA’’ organized an annual international conference

An annual international conference was organized in Bangkok, Thailand by the Global Foot and Mouth Disease Research. Alliance (GFRA).

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili along with the representatives of the National Food Agency and the Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture attended the conference, which brought together 150 representatives of 25 countries.

The participants discussed latest achievements and scientific works in the field of veterinary medicine, including issues related to the causes of Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) and measures taken to combat the disease. At the conference, the sides shared their experience regarding treatment of veterinary diseases. The Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) is a rare disease , it can be fatal, spreads rapidly and can cause a great economic damage.

As part of the conference, with the support of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Georgia presented research articles  suggesting circulating levels of non-structural protein in Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE), as well as determining the level of antibodies after the vaccination of adolescent animals.

"It’s worth mentioning, Georgia’s experience on modern methods how to avoid or combat the Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) will be further enhanced through participation of similar events, moreover, it will enable us to take all the necessary measures to maintain a stable epizootic situation and strengthen international economic and trade relations" said Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
