''This is the beginning of the most important reform to support the land registration process '' said Levan Davitashvili

Under the land registration reform, the legislative initiative prepared by the Ministry of Justice to simplify the procedure of registration was approved by Georgian Government today and forwarded to Parliament. According to the Minister, the legislation prepared by the Ministry of Justice will solve important issues and make the programs implemented by the Ministry even more flexible.

 “ Our country faces this problem over the years. We are implementing a big number of agricultural development programs, although the ownership registration for land appears an important precondition. Our team has been working on this topic for years. Ultimately, I believe, that the package presented today will resolve the aforementioned issue. From the beginning, it was our goal to develop proper methods for systematic land registration. Georgian Government will start the large-scale and systematic land registration from 2020. As a result, we will no longer face the problems related to unregistered lands, moreover, the aforementioned reform will facilitate to the development of land market and agricultural sector in the country”Levan Davitashvili said.

The legislative change was approved at a government meeting, according to which, the land registration will become much more easier for citizens. The document retrieval and systematized approach, authentication of signatures of the parties intending to make a contract, notary mediation, land rights addressing the ownership of land, as well as verification of facts will be free of charge until January 1, 2022, as for the land ownership rights and changes made within, the land will be registered without paying the service fee.

Under the frame of the systematic registration, the certificate of inheritance will be issued free until 1st January, 2022.
