The First Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Giorgi Khanishvili opened the National Conference “High Investment Opportunities in Horticulture Sector of Georgia”

Giorgi Khanishvili expressed his gratitude to the representatives of donor organizations for their active support in the field of agriculture and outlined the development potential of horticulture sector in the country. At the meeting, the First Deputy Minister set focus on the agricultural development programs developed and implemented by Georgian Government to support the sector.

“The state-run programs have significantly contributed to the development of horticulture sector over the years. At present, we see, that agriculture sector started to move to a qualitatively new level. We need to produce high quality products that will be targeted at the highest-value customer segments. The value chain development is of utmost importance, thereby, a wide range of products, including primary products along with the processed ones should be presented at the market. I believe, that with the support of donor organizations, we will achieve a positive result in this direction soon ”Giorgi Khanishvili said.

During the conference, the participants discussed perspectives for horticulture development and outlined the investment opportunities in different areas of agriculture sector. The potential for the development of walnut crops, berries and table grapes, as well as  prospects for Georgia to become a logistics hub for fresh fruits and vegetables was brought forward at the meeting.

The farmers, fruit producers, representatives of Georgian and international industry associations and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
