The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili visited fish ponds created by Ukrainian investments in Khashmi and Tbisi villages

More than a thousand tons of fish are brought to fish farming ponds in Khashmi and Tbisi villages which are sold locally or exported in the CIS and several EU countries.
At the meeting, Levan Davitashvili set focus on the draft law of Georgia for fisheries and aquaculture and noted, that legislative package submitted in the parliament will significantly contribute to the development of Georgia’s fishery sector.
“Georgia has a great potential for aquaculture, mariculture and fish farming. Consequently, our country may become an exporting country of all above mentioned products. We have been working at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture for the development of a new legislation for a year, considering best examples of leading countries, engaging experts from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). A legislative package has already been prepared and will be soon approved by the Parliament to create new opportunities for private investors ”Levan Davitashvili said.
Three fish ponds were built through Ukrainian investment in Georgia. The company "aqua farm village khashmi" is exporting fish to the CIS and EU countries. The company plans to expand its production and acquire black sturgeon next year. Moreover, the company "rioni sturgeon factory" produces salmon, which is brought from Norway and Chile in the village of Tbisi, Tetritskaro municipality. The production of trout caviar is also underway. The third company "club admiral" operates in the same direction.
The owner of the company, Sergey Panchenko, noted, that Ukrainian investment has exceeded $ 10 million in recent years. Georgian caviar produced in ponds is planned to export on the world market in the future. The negotiations with foreign partners are already underway in this regard.
