The regional workshop on WTO transparency in Agriculture and Fisheries

On November 21-22, FAO office in Rome organized  a regional workshop on "WTO Transparency in Agriculture and Fisheries" . The meeting was held in Tbilisi.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Khatia Tsilosani made an opening speech at the meeting. World Trade Organization (WTO) representative Diwakar Dixit, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representatives Ahmad Mukhtar, Marcelo, Castro de Souza and Irina Kobutta led the event.

During the workshop, the experts brought forward new rules, approaches and tools used to ensure trade of agricultural products and  improve the transparency of fisheries subsidies.

The representatives of WTO Member States (Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine) and WTO candidate countries (Belarus and Uzbekistan) participated in the meeting along with WTO National Notification Authorities and relevant Ministries, which are engaged in trade regulations, creating notifications for agricultural products and fishery .

The meeting was held under the frame of the FAO Regional Initiative, which aims to improve trade and market integration of agricultural products. The initiative aims to strengthen the export potential of European and Central Asian countries, as well as to facilitate their integration into global trade relations.
