Levan Davitashvili: "I agree with the Chairman of the Georgian Dream Party - that proportional representation is the only fair system, while mixed electoral systems is unrealistic and wrong"
“Today, freedom of speech, as well as freedom of expression is guaranteed and protected in our country. However, the forms of protest should be in compliance with the law. As for the mood of the population - people are allowed to express their will in the election. Accordingly, the population will voice its position and vote for the political force they support in the election, which will be held in 2020 ” said Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, after the government session.
Levan Davitashvili commented on recent interview of Bidzina Ivanishvili on Imedi TV.
“The transition to the proportional electoral system was determined to start from 2024. The Head of the party stated in his interview, that the whole process was going on in a very destructive and wrong way. The above mentioned processes bringing some chaos to the team disabled to introduce the proportional electoral system earlier, that is unfortunate for me and many of my teammates. It would be more acceptable if the proportional elections had been introduced earlier in the country ” Levan Davitashvili said.
Levan Davitashvili outlined the engagement of the international community in the ongoing processes, noting that the government has regular communication with both the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and international organizations.
“We have a proper communication, which is a key factor to maintain the image of the country. I believe, that, the destabilization in the country created by a minority party has a negative impact on our country's reputation and image. Anything that goes against the law poses risks to our country, including economic stability and economic development, which I think is more important to our citizens, as far as, later on, it will take a long time to recover damages caused by irresponsible behavior "the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture said.
