Giorgi Khanishvili: "Public Discussion makes a substantial contribution to the Development of the Strategy Document"

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Giorgi Khanishvili opened the final meeting dedicated to the public discussion of the projects envisaged under the Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 and 2021-2023 Action Plan.

Giorgi Khanishvili outlined the importance of the strategy as a political document, he expressed gratitude to the EU, UNDP and UN Food and Agriculture Organization for providing expert assistance services and financial support in developing the strategy. 

“ New Strategy is a consolidated and updated version of the Agricultural and Rural Development Strategies with the main focus on Georgia's agriculture and rural development. The strategy and an action plan to discuss publicly with the stakeholders is of utmost importance, as it helps to develop a comprehensive document in line with the principle of publicity. Our goal is to help rural population to gradually improve their living conditions ” Giorgi Khanishvili said.

As was noted, the main strategic areas of the Agricultural and Rural Development Strategy 2021-2027 are targeted at increasing competitiveness of the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, improving social conditions, managing natural resources, improving food, veterinary and plant protection systems, including taking measures for climate change adaptation.

The Head of Policy-Analysis Department, Ekaterine Zviadadze delivered a presentation on the draft documents of Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 and an Action Plan 2021-2023.
