New regulations to tighten control and impose sanctions on the negative impact on environment

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, where participants discussed ways to solve the problem of air pollution in Rustavi.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Yuri Nozadze, Governor of Kvemo Kartli, Shota Rekhviashvili, Mayor of Rustavi Irakli Tabagua and Heads of the relevant departments of the Ministry attended the meeting.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze noted, that development of local manufacturing is a key priority in the country, although each entrepreneur is obliged to ensure compliance with the environmental regulations. Entrepreneurial activities should not harm the environment, neither affect the health and well-being of the population. The Deputy Minister noted, that the Ministry closely cooperates with the relevant organizations interested in environmental issues, which is very important in terms of identifyng problems and defining problem-solving methods.

It is also worth noting, that considering current situation in Rustavi, the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia carried out a large-scale inspections of enterprises operating in Rustavi. At the meeting, representatives of the local self-government were provided with the detailed information about the violations.

The participants discussed legislative changes, which are prepared by the Department of Environmental Supervision. The new regulations will further tighten control and impose sanctions on the negative impact on the environment.
