Discussion on Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy and an Action Plan of Georgia has come to an end

The final meeting held by the Interagency Rural Development Coordination Council to summarize the Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 and an Action Plan 2021-2023 has come to an end.

The Chairman of the Council and the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili led the meeting. The First Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the European Union,  United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for their support and noted, that strategy and action plan document was developed through active involvement of stakeholders, in consideration of stakeholders comments and recommendations.

It was mentioned, that key objectives of the Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 include the development of competitive agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, sustainable use of natural resources, conservation of ecosystems, climate change adaptation, food products / animal feed safety, development of veterinary and plant protection systems.

The National Manager of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Nodar Kereselidze noted, that close cooperation between the public and private sectors, NGOs and stakeholders, as well as engagement of civil society  in the development and implementation process of the rural development policy is of utmost importance.

The representatives of the European Union, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia attended the meeting.
