Eight agricultural cooperatives - beneficiaries of the state program ‘’Georgian Tea’’ provided with modern technique

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili along with the Governor of Imereti region, Zviad Shalamberidze attended the event in Samtredia municipality , whereby, eight agricultural cooperatives were provided with the farm equipment 

Four years ago, we started rehabilitation activities within the state program “ Georgian Tea ” and are expecting to receive our first harvest in 2020. Today we have delivered modern equipment to eight cooperatives, which produce tea in Samegrelo, Guria and Imereti regions. Our goal is to support tea growers and restore the tea crop cultures in Georgia ‘’ said Levan Davitashvili.

140 hectares of tea plantations were rehabilitated by eight cooperatives- beneficiaries of the state program ‘’Georgian Tea’’ through financial support of the Georgian Government, whereby state co-financing amounted to 287,000 GEL.

The program  ‘’Georgian Tea’’ also included purchasing of different types of tea production equipment for cooperatives. The farming equipment purchased by the government amounted to GEL 314,000 .
49 beneficiaries are engaged in the ‘’Georgian Tea’’ program across the country. The total area of rehabilitation plantations is comprised of 1,024 hectares and the total investment amounts to 2,551,642 GEL, out of which 1,775,488 GEL is state co-financing.

The program "Georgian Tea" has been implementing since 2016,  aiming to make effective use of the potential of tea plantations in Georgia, promote the growth and production of local tea (including biotea), increase self-sufficiency and export potential.
