Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili participated in the large-scale ceremony event, marking Georgia officially assuming the chairmanship of the Council of Europe

Minister expressed his approval for European aspirations of Georgia and integration of Georgian people into the Western institutions.

"One of the fundamental priorities of the Council of Europe is the protection of human rights and environment, therefore, Georgia will set focus on the above mentioned issues during its presidency of the Council of Europe. We will hold a number of very important events. Georgia is a party to the Berne Convention, which undertakes the protection of biodiversity and we should mention, that Georgia actively cooperates with the Convention Secretariat. During the Presidency of the Council of Europe, we will have even more active communication with our European counterparts. 

Our environmental policy is mainly defined by the Association Agreement with the Europe, which includes approximation of legislation and implementation of European standards in the country ” Levan Davitashvili said.

On December 14, the large-scale gathering was held to mark the upcoming European Week dedicated to Georgia’s Chairmanship of the Council of Europe.
