Government of Georgia approved the Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027


Government of Georgia has approved Georgia’s Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 and an Action Plan 2021-2023.

• The strategy was developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia  with the support of the European Neighborhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD),through  involvement of all relevant government agencies and in active cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

• The strategy development process embraced various stakeholders as well as a number of public discussions held in Tbilisi and different  regions, bringing together farmers, entrepreneurs, representatives of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, business sector, NGOs and civil society.

• The Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 was based on the analysis of existing strategies, in consideration of the results of programs / reforms implemented, as well as experience of the EU. The strategy includes priorities of the Government of Georgia, as well as sectoral or multisectoral directions and approaches targeted at the agricultural and rural development.

 It should be mentioned, that negotiations are underway between the EU and Georgia regarding allocation of budgetary assistance under the European Neighborhood Policy for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD IV). During negotiations Georgia's Rural and Agricultural Development Strategy 2021-2027 and the relevant action plan will be used to identify conditions for disbursement of each tranche for  budget support.
