Georgia chairs the United Nations ESCAP Forum in Bangkok

The Fifth Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCAP)  was opened by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili in Bangkok, capital of Thailand Kingdom.  The participants have been focused on the implementation of sustainable development goals  (SDG) and highlighted results achieved by different countries.
Under the frame of the development of the national policy, the Minister drew his attention to the introduction of a set of indicators for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. The Minister underlined the importance of the recent reforms carried out by the Georgian government and brought forward challenges related to achieving sustainable development goals by 2030.
The Minister thanked the representatives of the international and non-governmental organizations, governments of different countries for participating in the forum and for the reforms implemented in the environmental field and expressed hope for future cooperation.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Sharvashidze and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to India, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Archil Dzuliashvili together with Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili attended the forum.
Levan Davitashvili held bilateral meetings with the representatives of Thailand, UN and other participating countries. At the ESCAP headquarter pavilion, the National Stand was arranged specially for Georgian partners, where the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia made a presentation on successful projects, which also included tasting / degustation of Georgian wines and sweets.
The Annual Conference and High Level Forum in connection with the United Nations New Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) organized by the UN Commission is held in the headquarter of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand.
The forum brings forward issues related to the development of the new UN agenda for 2015-2030, regional consultations for the implementation of sustainable development goals, as well as deepening trade-economic, social and political relations between member states.
The three-day forum (28-30 March) engaging up to 600 representatives of ESCAP member states, international organizations and NGOs is focused on issues of sustainable development and the future plans to deepen International cooperation. The motto of the Fifth Forum of Sustainable Development  is "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies" in Asia and Pacific.
