The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Giorgi Khanishvili held a meeting with the Senior animal health and production officer of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Europe and Central Asia, Eran Raizman.

At the meeting, the sides highlighted ongoing projects being implementing  in the field of livestock and animal health and welfare and drew their attention to the future cooperation issues.
Giorgi Khanishvili outlined the importance of cooperation with the international donor organizations, donor support projects and their assistance in raising public awareness.

“The livestock sector development is impossible without animal health care and protection. Therefore, involvement of international partners and donor organizations in this process is of utmost importance, moreover, with the support of the International partners, measures are taken to improve legislative framework and implement projects to protect animal health and welfare,  identify and register animals, which promotes traceability and increases export potential in Georgia. However, the Ministry will further continue to actively cooperate with the international organizations and partners to develop the livestock sector and implement modern standards in the country ” the First Deputy Minister said.

The Senior animal health and production officer of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Europe and Central Asia, Eran Raizman spoke about the achievements in the animal health and livestock field in Georgia and outlined the progress made through the effective cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the National Food Agency. 

The Head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili, Vasil Basiladze, Deputy Head of the Agency, Vasil Basiladze, FAO Coordinator for ENPARD Projects in Georgia, Dragan Angelovski and Mikheil Sokhadze, Head of the National Animal Identification and Registration System (NAITS), Mikheil Sokhadze attended the meeting.
