Citrus harvest has come to an end

2019 was marked by high quality tangerine harvest in Georgia.

According to the preliminary information, the harvest exceeded 50 thousand tons, while exports amounted to 31 thousand tons in September-January in the previous year, which is 5% more compared to the same period of 2018.

The export was implemented in the following countries :

• Russia (20.0 thousand t)
• Ukraine (5.2 thousand tons)
• Armenia (4.4 thousand t)
• Belarus (319 t)
• Kazakhstan (140 t)
• Kyrgyzstan (58 t)

This year, following countries were added to the list of exporter countries:

• Slovenia
• Moldova
• Lietua
• Poland
• Qatar
• Singapore.

High quality of products was directly reflected in the market price. Wholesale price of tangerines was fluctuated from 0.6 to 2.0 GEL.

According to the data of January 19, 2020, the total number of non-standard tangerines received by factories for industrial processing amounted to 10,000 tons.

It is noteworthy, that the high quality of harvest received this year was largely due to the large-scale measures taken by Georgian Government against the Asian Stink Bug. As part of the fight program, preventive measures were taken in the plants - the areas were treated with thermal fog, which minimized the damage caused by the invasive pest to citrus crops.

The coordinating headquarter was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture together with the Government of Adjara to ensure the smooth running of the tangerine harvest process.

Hotline (1501) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is operated to receive the necessary information.
