Levan Davitashvili: "We keep close ties with the US and Israel to develop the agricultural sector in Georgia "

The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the USAID and Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV).

The memorandum was signed by USAID Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Georgia, Ron Gidor, which envisages strengthening of global partnership between Georgia, US and Israel. The activities and cooperation within the Memorandum will contribute to the increase of income derived from agricultural sector in Georgia, improvement of the welfare of the rural population and, consequently, economic development of the country.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili expressed gratitude to the US and Israel for the long-term, partnership cooperation and noted, that the Memorandum will help  agricultural development in the country.

“The Deputy Administrator for the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Bonnie Glick is the high-ranking official resided in Georgia since 2008. His visit confirms the support from our strategic partner- US to Georgia's policy. In terms of agriculture, we have close, long-term cooperation with the US and the State of Israel. The memorandum signed today is an important precondition for American and Jewish experts to share their knowledge and experience in the field of agriculture, ”Levan Davitashvili said.

“Within the trilateral partnership, special attention will be paid to agriculture and tourism. These two areas are crucial for economic development of the country.We plan to take US and Israeli innovations and find ways to share them with Georgian side and help them  to increase agricultural production and increase agricultural engagement in the global economy, ”said Bonnie Glick.

“For 27 years we have trained more than 1500 Georgians on various fields. Today's Memorandum of Understanding was created to deepen this trilateral cooperation between Georgia, the United States and Israel and put it in more permanent basis. In this respect we are looking forward not only in deepening but also to expanding a range of activities not only in the agricultural sector, but in other important fields as well "said Ran Guidor.
