The meeting held under the program “Reducing risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia’’

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili  attended the workshop held under the large-scale program “Reducing risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia’’

$ 70 million large-scale program aims to develop a climate change adaptation mechanism at the national level.

At the meeting, the sides have been focused on the improvement of hydro-meteorological system, purchase and modernization of the observation system, which is one of the most important components of the multi-hazard early warning system .

“The program is designed to provide an early warning systems throughout Georgia, which will enable to prevent multi scale disasters . We started implementation of the project last year, which is progressing well. Moreover, experts invited from the World Bank and the UN World Meteorology Organization to share their knowledge and experience with Georgian partners is of utmost importance for us, subsequently we will get positive results. We will develop the infrastructure that will be tailored to the reality and needs of our country ”Nino Tandilashvili said.

The program is implemented with the support of the Government of Georgia, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Bank (WB), Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the governments of Switzerland and Sweden.

British, Turkish and Serbian experts invited by Government of Georgia and international organizations attended the meeting.
