Project ‘’FinExCoop Georgia’’ will provide a support to small commercial farms and cooperatives

The Steering Committee of the project “Finance & Extension & Cooperative Development for Georgian Farmers (FinExCoop Georgia)” held a second meeting at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

 

The meeting was chaired by Giorgi Khanishvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Khatia Tsilosani, Deputy Minister and Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Safety Program Manager at the EU Delegation Georges Dehoux.

 

The  Project ‘’FinExCoop Georgia’’ aims at improving access to finance and agricultural extension services of small farms and cooperatives in Georgia.

 

The Deputy Minister, Khatia Tsilosani highlighted challenges facing the agricultural sector in Georgia.

 

At the meeting, the participants were focused on the structural changes implemented within the Ministry, which resulted in the creation of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (ARDA). The agency will provide a support to the agricultural development, increase professional education of farmers, strengthen agricultural extension system and registration of farmers.

 

The Deputy Minister noted, that determining the purpose of the land use, as well as agricultural land registration still remains a challenge, therefore, National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring was established to deal with the above mentioned issues.
FinExCoop Project Leader Christophe Cordonier presented achievements and future goals of the project, which helps medium-sized farms to build a strong farming background.

 

At the end of the meeting, the Senior Project Manager at Frankfurt School of Finance and Management Office, Cansu Karatay and the Deputy Director of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (ARDA), Archil Bukia signed a Memorandum of Understanding for successful implementation of the project.

 

The project is funded under the frame of the European Neighborhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development (Enpard) and the L Agence Francaise de Developpment (AFD). The project is implemented by the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management together with Mercy Corps, Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) and CHambre dAgriculture du Loiret.
