Levan Davitashvili: "in 2020, the Company RMG will complete the implementation of the Major Part of the environmental obligations issued and imposed by the Ministry "
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili together with the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Nino Tsilosani and the members of the Working Group on Environmental Pollution of Kvemo Kartli region got familiar with the environmental measures taken by RMG in the town Kazreti, Bolnisi district.
“The company is taking active strides to fulfill obligations, addressing and improving critical points. The Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry conducted an inspection. Our specialists are implementing continuous monitoring. Today we face the results of the activities undertaken to improve the company's environmental performance.
We believe, that most of the critical issues will be resolved in 2020 ”Levan Davitashvili said.
According to Nino Tsilosani, the current situation in RMG is the result of successful cooperation between the Ministry, Parliamentary Commission and the company.
"Significant changes were made in the last two years to improve the workplace safety and reduce environmental pollution, which is the best example of resolving issues through public and private sector partnership format" Nino Tsilosani said.
According to the Head of Sakdrisi committee, Nino Burchuladze, the company has been able to perform difficult tasks.
“Over the last year and a half, Sakdrisi Committee has been working tirelessly in the format of a parliamentary working group. We had a very difficult time, but the results were really worth it. We have been continuously conducting monitoring on the operations and activities implemented by the company and we will carry on monitoring in the future as well. Conclusions about the effectiveness of the work carried out by the company will be made in the spring " Nino Burchuladze said.
It is noteworthy, that the large part of the obligations imposed to the company was related to the water protection measures.
Within the timeframe set by the Ministry, the RMG installed drainage systems, completed the construction of water treatment plants, thus preventing pollution of the rivers Kazretula, Mashavera and Boladauri. The company completed the installation of a dust protection system as well, which was one of the major pollutants caused by the company's activities.
“The company has been able to fulfill most of its obligations. This year the construction of sanitation facilities will be completed and river pollution will be completely eliminated ”said Chief Executive Director of the company Tornike Lipartia.
