Building a Nursery to maintain Colchic boxwood

From April 2018, the National Forestry Agency starts chemical treatment of damaged areas of Colchic boxwood shrubs. 550 ha of the State Forest Fund will be under organic treatment in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Guria and Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti regions. Organic treatment activities will be carried out three times a year (from spring to fall) according to the biological characteristics of the pest. Alternative methods are also used in damaged areas, such as field trials with pheromone traps. The restoration measures are also planned to implement.
The National Forestry Agency carries out conservation measures to ensure the maintenance of Colchis boxwoods. The seed bank is already created and construction of a nursery to maintain Colchic boxwood is underway in Samegrelo region.
In 2016, the National Forestry Agency carried out organic treatment of boxwood shrubs in three regions of Georgia - Imereti, Guria and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.
In 2017, the pest was detected in 150 ha area of Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti region where the Agency carried out organic treatment activities.
As a result of the works carried out in Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti regions, the number of pests have significantly reduced in some areas of Imereti region, Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti regions which contributed to the regeneration process of damaged plants.
