Levan Davitashvili and Shalva Kereselidze visited ‘’Saguramo Farm’’

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili together with the Public Attorney of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region, Shalva Kereselidze visited Giorgi Berishvili's farm and got acquainted with the ongoing work process.
With the state financial support,  the farmer, Giorgi Berishvili built a beef and dairy cattle breeding farm in Mtskheta municipality, whereby,  GEL 3,200,000 was spent in the construction, GEL 1,400,000 is a preferential agro-credit and GEL 60,000 is a grant from ‘’Young Entrepreneur’’ Program.

 

“Georgian government closely cooperates with farmers to increase the number of farms, improve livestock productivity and create more products for the local market. We are working with our Belarusian and Estonian counterparts to bring high-yielding, healthy cattle to Georgia and support the further development of agricultural farms ”Levan Davitashvili said.

Saguramo Farm" is one of the most successful projects created through state support. The farmer is the beneficiary of two state projects. I would like to see as many livestock projects as possible in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, as far as the cattle breeding is one of the top priorities for our region and we have a great potential in this direction ”said Shalva Kereselidze.

 

The farm currently comprises 150 heifers and 45 head of high-yielding diary (Holstein) cows, brought by a farmer from Belarus.

 

In the future, the farmer plans to import cattle from Estonia. By March 2020, the farm will have a total of 300 highly productive beef and diary cattle. It is important to note, that the farmer first imported the Aberdeen Angus, Scottish breed of small beef cattle in Georgia. 11 locals are employed in the farm; The production are sold on the local market.

 

It is noteworthy, that through state financial support, 16 new enterprises have been opened in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, including milk and fruit processing plants and greenhouses.
