Levan Davitashvili: " Air quality management plan will be developed to improve the ambient air quality in the town Rustavi"

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili chaired the first meeting of the Working Group on Promoting Ambient Air Quality.

The Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili, Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Nino Tsilosani, Governor in Kvemo Kartli, Shota Rekhviashvili, Mayor of Rustavi, Irakli Tabagua, representatives of the Civil Rights Movement and relevant departments of the Ministry attended the meeting. 

 The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture along with the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia are developing and implementing legislative initiatives, which is the important legal precondition for improving ambient air quality. We aim to get closer to the European environmental policy; Accordingly, companies must take responsibility for their own actions. We are very strict and have an uncompromising approach in this direction ”Levan Davitashvili said. 
 

 

The Minister underlined the importance of engagement of all responsible and interested parties, as well as civic society involvement.
European best practice examples, results of ambient air quality monitoring and control of industrial sector's compliance with the environmental laws and obligations were presented at the meeting.

 

It was noted that, under the working group format, the air quality management plan will be developed, which will significantly improve the ambient air quality in Rustavi.
