Levan Davitashvili: ‘’4 Million Euros to allocate for introduction of modern technologies in ‘’Rustavi Azoti’’

Levan Davitashvili: “We have made an unconditional commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the country. In collaboration with the German Ministry of Environmental Protection, we will receive significant financial assistance, which will enable reduction of nitrous oxide emissions from nitric acid production in the environment. "

In collaboration with the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Georgia has joined an initiative aiming at providing greenhouse gas capture technology to nitric acid producing companies in member states.

“This issue is particularly important in the context, when we are making endeavors to improve the air quality in the town Rustavi. The working group has already been established and a close collaboration ties with the initiative group has been set to make the process as transparent as possible.   This is a difficult issue and will take several years to deal with the existing challenge. Under the agreement approved by the government today, we will receive € 2 million from German government.

The joint-stock company (JSC) Rustavi Azoti will also allocate €2 million for the project so that €4 million will be used in total to construct greenhouse gas capture technologies in Rustavi.

The greenhouse gas emissions generated by Rustavi Azoti during the production process make up about 4-5% of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions.

It will be a major breakthrough for Rustavi. We will have a complex approach towards Rustavi air quality, which will be formulated in a working group format. This kind of complex approach Georgia has in relation to Tbilisi's air management as well.

As a result, the existing problems will be gradually solved” the Minister of Environmental Projection and Agriculture said after the government session.
Improving ecological situation in the town of Rustavi is one of the top priorities included in the agenda of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

Georgia joined the initiative, which will help the country to fulfill its commitment under the Paris Agreement within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Since 2015, Georgia has been a party to the Paris Agreement.
