Levan Davitashvili attended the presentation of the new project “People of Wine”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili attended the presentation of the new project " People of Wine" at Tbilisi Wine Museum. The new project implemented by the company Teliani Valley in cooperation with the National Wine Agency aims to support the development of small and family owned wine cellars.

“One of the main areas of our policy is the development of small and family owned wine cellars and promotion of wine production made from rare grape varieties, which is particularly important for the development of Georgian wine industry. The project ‘’ People of Wine’’ is fully in line with our policy. This is a great example of the collaboration of a large company and small cellars, which should serve as an example for other companies. Georgian wine and its diversity is a ‘’visit card’’ for Georgia, it is our strong side that needs proper policy and management.

We preserved unique and rare grape varieties, now it is important to promote industrialization of grape production. This will allow us to present even more wines with diverse assortment in  the international markets ” Levan Davitashvili said.

Within the project, high quality wines made from unique, rare and less commercial varieties of grapes will be bottled in different regions of Georgia and promoted and sold in local and international markets.

The first collection of the project ‘’ People of Wine ‘’ combines 10 different wines produced in Bolnisi Small Cellars in Kvemo Kartli region and each bottle tells the story of the wine producer.

The project will promote the popularization of Bolnian wines, expansion and increase of production made by small and family-owned wine makers. It is noteworthy, that with the initiative of Bolnisi winemakers and state support, Bolnisi was registered as an appellation of origin.

The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, National Wine Agency, NGOs, international organizations and wine producers attended the event.
