The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili met with the Governor in Kvemo Kartli region, Shota Shota Rekhviashvili, Heads of the regional municipalities and representatives of the local self-government supervision services.
The participants discussed activities and control mechanisms implemented by self-government bodies on the regulation of plastic and biodegradable bags. The meeting was held in the town Rustavi.
“The municipal authorities responsible to carry out monitoring for municipal shopping facilities will intensify their efforts to control the replacement of plastic bags with biodegradable bags. The entrepreneurs, importers and owners of trade networks will take responsibility for protecting the environment ” Solomon Pavliashvili said.
According to Shota Rekhviashvili, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is working on issues related to the banning of the use of plastic and biodegradable bags regulated under the Government Decree.
" We, as well as self-government bodies have social responsibility for environmental protection, it is our duty to take effective measures and subsequently, to ensure that positive results are achieved " - the Governor said.
