''Green Economy and New Growth Opportunities for SMEs in Georgia” to discuss at the meeting

Within the EU4Environment program, the topic "Green Economy and New Growth Opportunities for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in Georgia" was discussed at the meeting.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Ekaterine Mikabadze, representatives of Small and Medium Business of Georgia, Central and Local Government, Academic Institutions, International Organizations and Civil Society attended the meeting.

“One of the most important components of the EU4Environment program is the introduction of eco-innovations and resource-efficient technologies in SMEs. Encouraging clean production is one of the crucial issues regarding sustainable environmental development. With the help of the program and active engagement of our experts, SMEs will be able to successfully create resource-efficient and clean technology-based business models ”said Nino Tandilashvili.

At the meeting, the participants have been focused on approaches related to the eco-innovations and resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) that enable SMEs to move to a circular economy. Local partners (companies, institutions and experts) were identified who will be involved in the projects to implement eco-innovation and RECP approaches and develop innovative business strategies.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia together with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The EU4Environment program helps six Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in implementing better environmental governance and stimulates economic development mechanisms that reduce environmental impacts and help to preserve natural capital and improve the well-being of the population.
