The Memorandum of Understanding was signed to provide the bear shelter with food supply


Under the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Carrefour Company will provide edible products spilled or damaged in a market to the bears living in a shelter in Tskhvarichamia.

 

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Yuri Nozadze, Founder of Bears' Shelter, Soso Jikurishvili and General Manager of Carrefour in Georgia, Christophe Orcet signed a memorandum of cooperation to protect brown bears included in the Red List of Georgia from hunting, poaching, or road traffic-caused deaths and improve their living conditions.

 

“ We express our genuine warmth and sincerity, that Carrefour company has responded to our Ministry's initiative to provide bear shelters with edible damaged products at a symbolic price. I would like to thank the Founder of Bears' Shelter, Soso Jikurishvili. I hope, that this Memorandum will help to end the vicious practices that have been carried out in the country over the years ” said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

 

Christophe Orset noted, that Carrefour Company is ready to join the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and through joint activities improve the living conditions of bears have been kept in captivity over the years.
