Steering Group of the National Animal Health Program holds further meetings

The Steering Group of the National Animal Health Program held it’s 35th meeting at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia .

 

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili chaired the meeting.

 

 Giorgi Khanishvili set focus on the activities taken by the Steering Group and outlined it’s contribution to the development of the livestock sector. According to the First Deputy Minister, the livestock sector is going through a difficult development path in the country, therefore, engagement of partner and donor organizations in the process, as well as their support is of utmost importance .

 

“I would like to express my gratitude to our partner organizations for their cooperation and support. Today, when the world, including Georgia is actively fighting against the ongoing outbreak of the corona-virus, we can’t ignore the professionalism and high standard of employee work performance of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC). I would also like to point out, that the US Government delivered a  special technique to the National Food Agency for goods transported across the border , moreover, special antiviral treatment will be conducted to goods ( using disinfectant solution ) to prevent spread of corona-virus infections in the country. By taking anti-corona-virus measures, we will control the border perimeter and help to keep the turnover rate, which is very important for the sustainability of the Georgian economy " said Giorgi Khanishvili.

 

The participants discussed veterinary measures planned by the National Food Agency, including issues related to the diagnostic surveillance, animal identification / registration system, animals shelters as well as quality control of fish and seafood processing.

 

The representatives of the State Agricultural Laboratory and working group gave a detailed account of the ongoing activities and drew their attention to the future plans.
 

The representatives of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Austrian Development Agency (ADA), Swiss Cooperation Office in Georgia (SCO), EU (EU) and Georgian Institute Of Public Affairs (GIPA), Department of Agriculture Development attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
