The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili held a briefing to highlight issues related to the frequent outbreaks of fires on the territory of Georgia

''One of the severe consequences of climate change is the frequent outbreak of fires observed in Georgia as well as in other countries. Unfortunately,  since March 1, 2020, National Forest Fund managed by the National Forestry Agency detected forest fires at 43 locations of Georgia on a total area of 546 hectares. I would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Emergency Management Agency and its leadership and every employee who participated in the process and carried out fire liquidation works ” Levan Davitashvili said.

Since March 1, 2020 till today, information on forest fires spread across different regions of Georgia :

 

Kakheti - 18 locations, 168 hectares

 

Samtskhe - Javakheti - one location, 1 hectare

 

Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svantei - three locations, 60 hectares

 

Kvemo Kartli - five locations, 65 hectares

 

Shida Kartli - two locations, 15 hectares

 

Guria - four locations, 8.5 hectares

 

Imereti - six locations, 16 hectares

 

Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - four locations, 200 hectares

 

Mtskheta-Mtianeti - one location, 10 hectares
(despite the size of the area only the forest and the bushes have been burnt)

 

The forest fires were detected on two locations in the protected areas of Borjomi-Kharagauli forest and Kobuleti managed reserve. An area of 1,500 square metres was burnt in Borjomi-Kharagauli forest, while about three hectares were burnt in Kobuleti managed reserve.The  Fire arose in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is already liquidated; The relevant services are operating in Kobuleti Managed Reserve.
